It justifiably holds the unofficial title of ‘Christmas Capital of Germany’ mainly because of its connections with Käthe Wohlfahrt, a traditional Christmas decorations company based in the town.
During our first trip to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, we couldn’t help but fall in love with the town itself and also the wealth of Christmas decorations available from the ‘Christmas Capital of Germany’. Rothenburg is home to Käthe Wohlfahrt, an empire of traditional German Christmas decorations which dominates the town, earning it its prestigious title!

The first point to make is that there’s not just one, but seven Christmas markets situated across the city, each with its own unique theme and merchandise. At the end of November every year the city goes into full Christmas market mode, the organisation is as efficient as only a German city could be, with maps, sign posts and decorations to guide you to the correct venues.
